Background
Racial Equity has been a core value in Avivar’s work since inception. We’ve been fortunate to work with investors, organizations and communities who share our commitment to dismantling systemic racism and promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in communities and economic sectors throughout the nation.
Recent, intensified calls to action on addressing the nation’s legacy of racial inequality highlight the persistent underrepresentation of black fund managers in private capital markets. While LPs have started to recognize the potential alpha opportunity in investing in black-led funds, current discussions often overlook the structural barriers embedded in the processes that dictate capital allocation today. Black fund managers are looking to raise capital, and LPs have shown interest in diversifying portfolio managers. Even so, market inefficiency may prevent the parties from coming together or closing a deal. With a goal of advancing racial equity in private capital markets, Avivar Capital is currently conducting research dedicated to understanding barriers in the fund underwriting process.
